2010 Davis Golf Club Eclectic Tournaments
Included in the 2009 schedule the club ran an eclectic tournament. This event turned out to be quite popular as there were 36 participants. It has been decided to run two eclectic events this year and attempt to schedule the rounds more closely together, rather than spread out over most of the year as was the case in 2009. There will be a Winter Ec. and a Summer Ec. These events will again coincide with some of the individual medal play events.
For those of you new to the eclectic tournament concept, an eclectic tournament is one in which a participant is actually playing a better ball with himself as partner. In this case he is his own partner six different times. Basically a participant attempts to improve his score on each hole each time he plays. Thus, the composite score for the entire eighteen holes should improve with each round played. The more rounds played, the better the opportunity for a lower eclectic score. The schedule for the two eclectic events will be as follows:
ECLECTIC #1 ECLECTIC #2
Saturday January 9 Sunday July 11
Sunday January 31 Saturday August 7
Saturday February 13 Saturday August 21
Sunday February 21 Sunday August 22
Sunday March 14 Saturday September 11
Sunday March 28 Sunday September 12
It is not necessary to play in every round of an eclectic to participate. However, the more often that you do play, the better chance you have to improve your eclectic. Each of the eclectic tournaments is a separate event. You may play in either or both. The entry fee for each will be $20. An update of each individual participant's score will be posted on the tournament board for the duration of the event. Flights for the first eclectic tournament will be determined using March handicaps, while flights for the second eclectic event will be determined using September handicaps. There will be one gross winner in each flight, with the remainder of the purse being distributed based on net scores, just as in most club events.
